The government rent is only Rs 1000

New Delhi. For those working in the unorganized sector such as construction workers, laborers and migrant workers, the central government may soon introduce a rental building scheme. Students will also be able to take advantage of this scheme. Under this affordable rental housing scheme funded by the Central Government, houses will be provided in various categories at a rent of Rs. One to three thousand per month.
The Ministry of Housing (Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs) has set a preliminary estimate of Rs 700 crore for the scheme.
The finance minister announced the plan
Under the scheme, the Modi government is planning to use the 1 lakh vacancies under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY). A report by news website The Print said that such a scheme was brought under the affordable rental housing scheme during the tenure of the UPA government, which the Modi government now wants to provide for overseas laborers. The scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram on May 14.
No decision has yet been made based on the category.
It has written to senior officials involved that under the draft, the ministry will keep the rent for various categories between Rs 1,000 and Rs 3,000 per month. This will include construction, labor and others working in the unorganized sector. Housing will also be provided under this scheme for students to live at low rates. However, the report, published last week, also cited ministry officials as saying that no final decision had been taken on the eligibility of these categories.
Under the scheme, companies will get incentives on the ground
Also on Saturday, sources said that a cabinet note has been prepared for the rental housing scheme. This cabinet note has been approved by the Ministry of Housing and the proposal will now be sent to the Cabinet for final approval. Under the scheme, companies will get incentives for rental housing projects on their land.
