In the news - recently, the Union Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister has decided to set up a National Recruitment Agency (NRA).

    The proposed NRA will conduct a general preliminary examination for various recruitments in the Central Government.

    The agency was proposed in the 2020-21 budget.

For about 1.25 lakh vacancies in the Central Government every year, an average of Rs. Crores to crores of aspiring candidates are present and SSCs are currently vying for central government jobs. And IBPS. There are various exams conducted by different agencies.

    Candidates have to pay fees to multiple recruitment agencies and prepare to appear for various exams.

    Especially in rural areas women candidates face difficulties in appearing in many exams as they have to arrange transportation and stop in remote places but NRA will ease this hurdle.


Key Features of NRA and CET:

Planning of screening test-

    Initially, it will plan to create a CTET / Shortlist for Group B and C (non-technical) vacancies, which will now be taken up by Staff Selection (SSC), Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and Institute Banff Banking staff. . Selection (IBPS) and later, more examinations may be brought under it.
    

The agency will have representatives from SSC, IBPS and RRB and the examination will be conducted for three levels: Graduate, Higher Secondary (12th pass) and Matric (tenth pass) candidates.
   

 The existing recruitment agencies I.e.IBPS, RRB and SSC will be in its place. Based on the screening done at the CET score level, the final selection for recruitment will be made by a separate specialized tier (II, III, etc.) of the examination, which will be taken up by the respective recruitment agencies.
    

Exam mode will be in online online mode and in time-limit. The agency will release a schedule of CETs, which will be taken twice a year.


Course and score-

    The syllabus for this test will be the same as usual. This will ease the load of candidates who are currently required to prepare differently for each exam according to a different syllabus.
    

The CET score will be valid for three years. There will be no restriction on the number of attempts made by the candidate keeping in view the upper age limit in the CET.

Registration and Center-

    Candidates will have the facility to register on the general portal and give preference to the centers. Depending on availability, they will be allocated centers.
    

The NRA will set up examination centers in every district of the country, youth, especially women, from rural and remote areas of the country, as they will not have to go anywhere else to appear for the recruitment exams.
    

 117 ‘Aspirational Districts’ will focus on the structure of examinations.

Ex  It will bring standardization in the examination system and reduce the cost for various recruitment agencies. It is expected to save Rs 600 crore.
